Sanding Sealer and Clear Gloss: A Two-Step Wood Finishing Guide

A consistent wood finish begins with preparation. The two-step approach pairs a sanding sealer with a compatible clear gloss topcoat.

Step 1: Prepare the surface

Make sure the surface is clean, dry, and free of dust, wax, grease, and loose finish. Complete any sanding required for your project and remove sanding residue before applying a coating.

Step 2: Apply the sanding sealer

Use Finisher’s Choice Sanding Sealer M102-0543 according to the instructions on the can. Apply only under the temperature, ventilation, and coating conditions stated by the manufacturer.

Step 3: Add the clear gloss finish

After the preparation coat has dried and the surface is ready according to the label directions, apply Ultra-Flo Clear Gloss Lacquer M102-0450 in the recommended manner. Several light, controlled passes generally provide better control than trying to cover the surface heavily at once, but the product label remains the controlling instruction.
